How to Knit Beautiful Bags
The mercerised cotton yarn used for this delicate bag adds an extra sheen. The butterfly motif is knitted using intarsia, with added sequins and embroidery. Large sequins embellish the border, and it is finished with a pretty braided tie. See page 108 for more on working
the intarsia technique.

    Step 2

    Making up

Press pieces under a dry cloth. Using yarn C, embroider the top of the motif in chain stitch to form the butterfly’s antennae, and using yarn B make French knots at the top of the antennae. Sew the small sequins onto the wings using matching sewing thread, and seven large sequins across each side of the top of the bag, using a single thread of yarn C to attach them. Pin the bottom of the bag right sides together and sew the seam using backstitch. Then sew the side seams using mattress stitch.
Make and fit the lining, and fit the magne
    tic closure.
